First Date Recap

Wow!  What a wonderful turnout for our first night!  It was wonderful to see and meet so many couples who are dedicated to continuing to date their spouse.  It was also great to get to sit down with my husband and chat through some questions we wouldn't normally ask of each other, like how God works in our marriage.  Great food, great time, great connection!

Looking forward to next month!  March 16th... perhaps an Irish pub will be in order? :)

Remember, even if you've never come before, you are welcome to join us for any of the date nights!  Tell your friends.

A Second Helping

Thanks again to our leaders Erik and Leah for getting us started again in 2013.  This year's 6 dates will focus on the Beatitudes and use John Bosio's book "Blessed is Marriage: a Guide to the Beatitudes for Catholic Couples."  Look at the 6 Dates at SVdP page for more info on how the program runs.

Our schedule will be the 3rd Saturday evening of each month starting with February 16th and lasting for... yup, 6 months. :)
RSVPs are encouraged but not required.  See the registration for more info on that.

NO STRESS!  This program is not about how much work you can do on your marriage but how open you can be to God's influence on your relationship.  Read sections of the book if you can, but if you don't get to it, don't let it bother you, and come anyway.  Need to miss a night or two?  Again, no worries, we'll look forward to seeing you when you can make it.  This program is about building us up and enjoying our marriages NOT going through some kind of counseling program.  There's a reason we call it 6 Dates... relax and focus on going on a Date with your spouse!

PS. This program is a loving outreach of our parish and your fellow parishioners.  We want so much for you to have the best marriage possible and we pray for you as we prepare for each Date Night session. :)

Done for the year

What a great year!

It was so wonderful to meet some new couples, enjoy some good food and of course, reconnect with my husband and grow in faith over the course of our time with 6 dates.

Can't wait to see what next year brings for 6 Dates at SVdP!

Good food, good questions, GOOD TIME!

Every date with you is better than the last
We look to the future and build on the past.

Thanks to everyone who made it to our January date night.  Joe and I led the evening and felt very blessed in doing so.  Some snippets of what we talked about through reading the 3rd chapter of "Happy Together":

- What lead us to our marriage commitment and keeps us together is the JOY we find in our spouse, that joy led to our vows!

- It's important to remember the goodness of our spouse at all times, especially when we realize that we've married an imperfect human being... which we will realize, eventually, even you :)

- When spouses come together as one in marriage it is an echo of the Trinity and a foretaste of Heaven... that's no small matter!

After the meeting and video we went to Biaggi's for dinner and it was just plain wonderful.  The wine, bread, salads and main courses were delicious and we even splurged on some chocolate cake that was pretty much amazing.  Get it if you go, you'll thank me for the spontaneous fork jousting should to attempt to share.

Grab your calendars and mark February 18th for the next date night.  It's a 4 day weekend for you school parents, I hope that you will still be able to make it.  Don't plan a date for Valentine's day, we've got part of one built in... see you in the music room at 6!

First Dates

Erik and Leah, our leaders
Last Saturday we enjoyed our first of the Six Dates in the Six Dates program.  We met in the school cafeteria at 6pm and were able to meet some other couples also attending the program.  We began with brief introductions and prayer lead by Erik and Leah.

The video was entertaining with short clips of different couples weighing in with their brief stories of how they met, what they thought of each other at the beginning, what promises they made to each other in marriage, and what some joyful and difficult times they have had so far.  Some of their comments were pretty funny, I thought, especially in the case of the couple recounting about how their eyes met over the filing cabinets at work and they just knew they were destined to date.
The meeting and video encouraged us couples after leaving for our individual dates to share the same topics with one another over dinner.  The handout was nice in that it kept us focused but wasn't overbearing.  Our discussion wandered a bit based on the question and then we could come back to the next topic and start all over.  All in all, it was a wonderful night to reconnect, remember and enjoy the journey we've taken as spouses so far.  We even treated ourselves to dessert for our special evening together... :)

Gift package received upon arrival
We are already looking forward to the next Date Night which will be November 12th.  Save the date now and remember to tell other couples to come and join us, it doesn't matter if they were there for the first date night or not.

Bottom line is that it's simple, it's fun and totally worthwhile!

 See you November 12th!
